Premier League - December

Here is our first report of the last month English events.

Team of December is still Arsenal, which dominates (not uncontested), the English Premier League. Apart from the draws with Everton and Chelsea and the nearly tennis match at Ethiad Stadium against City which saw the Gunners lose 6 - 3, Wenger band scored 11 points, getting to the top with just 1 point ahead of the Citizens and 2 of Mourinho's Blues, not to mention the Champions League round passage, which will see her against the Bayern champions in office on the second round. The protagonist of this climb, first unexpected at least in the championship, has been undoubtedly the new signing Mesut Ozil, who provides the team winning geometries along with the equally talented Ramsey and Wilshere. However, Arsenal has not proven to be unstoppable, especially in the matches above mentioned and in the defeat of Naples, that has not, however, compromised the qualification. So there are real hopes for the chasers, especially for Manchester City, who appeared very brilliant in last matches: 10 out of 11 victories, 10 of 10 at home. Very clever the Chilean coach Pellegrini to manage the apparently easy game against Crystal Palace, except that it came shortly after the expensive victory against Liverpool by 2 - 1. Following Mourinho's Chelsea, which, it must be said, contrary to all expectations, has had and is still having problems in some games both in defense and in attack. In my opinion, in particular the last was bad managed in the transfer window (Eto'o, although it is great footballer, is on the way of retirement, but it was still preferred to the pure talent of the young Lukaku, who is now exploded with Everton). Just Mou said, after the victory against Liverpool in which the Cameroonian was the match winner, that " Eto'o has not understood the Premier, the first he does, the first begin to have fun." Surprise of the month was instead Martinez’s Everton, who has reach with 13 points the fourth place, ahead of Rodgers’ Liverpool, started brilliantly and now stopped with 36 points. Bomber so far is absolute Reds Uruguayan striker Luis Suarez, with 19 goals scored, surpassing the current scorers of Ligue 1, Serie A and Bundesliga Ibrahimovic (15), Rossi (14) and Lewandowski (11) and par with that of La Liga Diego Costa. Deserves a special mention, not positive, Manchester United. Of course the club has experienced the tragedy of the generational change, with the great Sir Alex Ferguson left after 26 years as coach of the Red Devils, he who has trained plenty of generations. Yet, this year he wanted to make room for a new course, suggesting the company the name of David Moyes. At this moment we can say that the choice was totally or almost bankruptcy, but there is still more time. There are those, however, argues that Ferguson has not really left the club of Manchester: the rebel Roy Keane, former captain of the Red Devils, as published in the La Gazzetta dello Sport on the 10 December, thinks that many of the decisions in the company still passing through the Scottish and that this not help Moyes; it must be said that Keane has a grudge against Sir Alex, but this crisis is evident and the criticisms are pressing: the last 3 victories are the opportunity for the rising. The Tottenham Spurs have instead seen a change on the bench: Villas- Boas was dismissed, in his place Tim Sherwood. So the president: "We have not been happy to make a change at the mid-season, but we felt the need to do so in the best interests of the club. We have a great team and we have a coach that will bring the best out of the players. We are in the fortunate position of having a coach in our club as talented as Tim Sherwood. We believe that Tim has the right knowledge to push and drive the best the team". After the draw with West Bromwich Albion, the new coach’s men have beaten Stoke City 3 to 0 at home and are now seventh, at two points from Europe. Together with Everton, surprises of this Premier, but now both downwards, have been Newcastle and Southampton, followed by a Hull City so far above the expectations and back from a roaring 6 to 0 against Fulham. Just Fulham is in black crisis, on the verge of retrocession along with the newly promoted Crystal Palace. At the bottom of the table there is Sunderland, which, although has a good squad, failed to do the minimum to avoid the lower parts of the table, as is doing for example Cardiff City. Swansea, Stoke, Aston Villa and Norwich are keeping the central positions, from West Brom we expected something more, while a nineteenth West Ham can profit by Fulham, as already mentioned, more and more in crisis.

Transfer window

Waiting for January, here are the main rumors that have been succeeding in this month. The big deal seemed to concern just an our great knowledge, perhaps the best Italian player at the moment. We're talking about Andrea Pirlo, approached several times to Arsenal and Tottenham, in the case of a non-renewal with his club, Juventus; renewal that,  apparently, will be done. More than of entrance, as for as Premier is concerned some leavings are likely to happen: from Manchester, City side, could leave Richards, at the edge of the Pellegrini’s project, Javi Garcia, tired of being eclipsed by Toure and Fernandinho , and maybe even Dzeko, which has a strong appeal mostly in Italy (Inter, Milan and Naples) and may instead leave United Nani (it has been talked about a 21 million offer from Juventus) and Chicharito Hernandez. At Chelsea the Mata case is now established: Mou did not really like the right side player and also for him it has been talked about a possible move to Juventus, but there's still nothing concrete. The Special One leading the club of Stamford Birdge seems to aspire to his former Real side back Coentrao, who did not impress much Ancelotti. For the Blues it has also profiled the possibility of a purchase in Italy: it seemed to be made for current Inter midfielder Fredy Guarin. The Italian club, however, urged 20 million, Chelsea stops at 15. "Guarin ? He has such a talent that in the market he is tempted by many teams - said the Inter managing at La Gazzetta dello Sport - Mazzarri has emphasized him, as for as the market is concerned we will see if we will intervene, both in the coming and in the outgoing, we will do that for strengthen the team. At the moment, however, are just rumors: Guarin is an our champion and we keep it tight”. The player instead: "I ​​have not spoken with Mourinho, my agent did that. I hope that Inter will consider how much I want to stay here. There are movements, there is definitely something, I cannot deny it". Still concerning Inter, Ranocchia seems to like both at Chelsea and United. The graet goalkeeper Iker Casillas, still in bad terms with Real, may find his way to land at Manchester City as early as January; finally, we record the interest of Southampton for Cagliari’s centre back Astori and of West Ham for Rome’s striker Borriello. 

Premier League - Dicembre

Ecco il nostro primo resoconto sugli eventi d’oltremanica dell’ultimo mese.

Protagonista del mese di dicembre è ancora l’Arsenal, che domina (non incontrastata) la Premier League inglese. A parte i pareggi con Everton e Chelsea e il match quasi tennistico dell’Ethiad Stadium contro il City che ha visto i Gunners capitolare per 6 a 3, la banda di Wenger ha totalizzato 11 punti, portandosi in vetta con 1 punto di vantaggio proprio sui Citizens e 2 sui Blues di Mourinho, senza contare il passaggio del turno di Champions League, che la vedrà scontrarsi agli ottavi con i campioni in carica del Bayern. Protagonista di questa scalata, fin dall’inizio inaspettata almeno in campionato, è stato senza dubbio il neo acquisto Mesut Ozil, che fornisce alla squadra geometrie vincenti assieme ai compagni altrettanto talentuosi Ramsey e Wilshere. Tuttavia l’Arsenal ha dimostrato di non essere imbattibile, soprattutto nelle gare sopra citate e nella disfatta di Napoli che non ha comunque compromesso la qualificazione. Per le inseguitrici ci sono dunque delle speranze concrete, specialmente per il Manchester City, che è apparso davvero brillante nelle ultime gare: 10 vittorie su 11, 10 su 10 in casa. Abile l’allenatore cileno Pellegrini nel gestire l’apparentemente facile partita contro il Crystal Palace, se non che arrivava poco dopo la dispendiosa vittoria sul Liverpool per 2 a 1. A seguire il Chelsea di Mourinho che, bisogna dirlo, non sta rispettando appieno le aspettative. Problemi in alcune partite sia in difesa che in attacco, in particolare quest’ultimo gestito male a mio avviso dal punto di vista del mercato (Eto’o, per quanto sia un campione, è sulla via del ritiro, ma è stato comunque preferito ad un giovane talento puro come Lukaku che è ora esploso con l’Everton). Proprio Mou ha dichiarato, dopo la vittoria con il Liverpool in cui il camerunense è stato il match winner, che “Eto’o non ha capito la Premier, prima lo farà, prima comincerà a divertirsi”. Sorpresa del mese è invece l’Everton di Martinez, che con 13 punti si è portato in quarta posizione, prima del Liverpool di Rodgers, partito a razzo e ora fermo a 36 punti. Bomber assoluto è fino ad adesso proprio l’attaccante uruguaiano dei Reds Luis Suarez, con 19 gol realizzati, superando gli attuali cannonieri di Ligue 1, Serie A e Bundesliga Ibrahimovic (15), Rossi (14) e Lewandowski (11) e alla pari con quello della Liga Diego Costa. Discorso a parte merita invece, non in positivo, il Manchester United. Certo il club ha vissuto il dramma del cambio generazionale, con il grande Sir Alex Ferguson che ha lasciato dopo 26 anni la panchina dei Red Devils, lui che di generazioni ne ha allenate tante. Eppure, quest’anno ha voluto far spazio a un nuovo corso, suggerendo alla società il nome di David Moyes. Giunti a questo momento potremmo dire che la scelta è stata totalmente o quasi fallimentare, ma c’è ancora del tempo. C’è chi però sostiene che Ferguson non abbia lasciato veramente il club di Manchester: il ribelle Roy Keane, ex capitano dei Red Devils, come ha pubblicato la Gazzetta dello Sport il 10 dicembre, sostiene che molte delle decisioni all’interno della società passino ancora attraverso il “santone scozzese” e ciò non facilita Moyes; c’è da dire che Keane ha il dente avvelenato nei confronti di Sir Alex, ma al di là di questo la crisi è evidente e le critiche pressanti: le ultime 3 vittorie sono l’occasione per il rilancio. Gli Spurs del Tottenham hanno invece visto un avvicendamento in panchina: Villas-Boas viene esonerato, al suo posto Tim Sherwood. Cosi il presidente: “Non siamo stati felici di effettuare un cambiamento a metà stagione, ma sentivamo la necessità di farlo nel miglior interesse del club. Abbiamo una grande squadra e dobbiamo avere un allenatore che tirerà fuori il meglio dai giocatori. Noi siamo nella fortunata posizione di avere all'interno del nostro club un allenatore di talento come Tim Sherwood. Crediamo che Tim abbia la giusta conoscenza per spingere e guidare al meglio la squadra". Dopo il pareggio col West Bromwich Albion, gli uomini del neo tecnico hanno sotterrato in casa lo Stoke City 3 a 0 e sono ora settimi, a due punti dall’Europa. Assieme all’Everton, altre sorprese di questa Premier, ora però entrambe al ribasso, sono state il Newcastle e il Southampton, seguiti da un Hull City finora sopra le aspettative e reduce da un roboante 6 a 0 ai danni del Fulham. Proprio il Fulham è in crisi nera, sull’orlo della retrocessione insieme con la neopromossa Crystal Palace. Fanalino di coda è il Sunderland, che, pur disponendo di una buona rosa, non è riuscito a fare il minimo indispensabile per evitare le parti basse della classifica, come sta ad esempio facendo il Cardiff City. Swansea, Stoke, Aston Villa e Norwich mantengono le posizioni centrali, dal West Brom ci si aspettava qualcosa di più, mentre il West Ham diciannovesimo potrebbe approfittare di un Fulham, come già detto, sempre più in crisi.

Mercato

Aspettando Gennaio, ecco i rumors principali che si sono susseguiti in questo mese. L’affare grosso sembrava riguardare proprio una nostra grande conoscenza, anzi, forse il miglior calciatore italiano in questo momento. Stiamo parlando di Andrea Pirlo, accostato più volte ad Arsenal e soprattutto Tottenham in caso di un mancato rinnovo con la Juventus; rinnovo che però, a quanto pare, andrà in porto. Più che di entrate, per quanto concerne la Prmier sono da registrare alcune uscite probabili: da Manchester, sponda City, potrebbero partire Richards, ai margini del progetto di Pellegrini, Javi Garcia, stanco di essere eclissato da Tourè e Fernandinho, e forse anche Dzeko, che ha tante estimatrici in Italia (Inter, Milan e Napoli); potrebbero invece lasciare lo United Nani (si parla di un’offerta della Juventus di 21 milioni) e il Chicharito Hernandez. In casa Chelsea il caso Mata è ormai appurato: a Mou non piace tanto l’esterno e anche per lui si parla di un eventuale passaggio ai bianconeri, ma non c’è ancora nulla di concreto. Lo Special One alla guida del club di Stamford Birdge sembra ambire al suo ex terzino dei tempi del Real Coentrao, che non ha entusiasmato più di tanto Ancelotti. Per il Blues si è profilato inoltre la possibilità di un acquisto in Italia: sembrava fatta per Fredy Guarin, attuale centrocampista dell’Inter. Il club neroazzurro chiede però 20 milioni, il Chelsea si ferma a 15. «Guarin? Ha un talento tale per cui sul mercato fa gola a molte squadre - ha detto il d.g. nerazzurro a La Gazzetta dello Sport - Mazzarri lo ha valorizzato, per quanto riguarda il mercato vedremo: se interverremo, sia in entrata che in uscita, lo faremo per rafforzare la squadra. Al momento comunque sono solo rumors: Guarin è un nostro campione e ce lo teniamo stretto». Il giocatore invece: «Non ho parlato con Mou, lo ha fatto il mio agente. Io spero che l’Inter consideri quanto io voglia restare qui. C’è movimento, c’è sicuramente qualcosa non posso negarlo». Sempre in ambito Inter, Ranocchia sembra piacere sia al Chelsea che allo United. Il portierone Iker Casillas, ancora in rotta con il Real, potrebbe trovare la strada per approdare al Manchester City già a gennaio; infine, da registrare l’interesse del Southampton per Astori del Cagliari e del West Ham per Borriello della Roma.
