Premier League - Jenuary

The month of January has been rightly dominated by the transfer window, that we will deal with more carefully, but, as far as the Premier League is concerned, this month has brought some news, especially at the top of the league. In fact, Citizens are the new leaders, at just 1 point from Arsenal, betrayed by the away draw with Southampton in the twenty-third week. Chelsea still follow, as well as Liverpool and Everton, while Tottenham is rising a bit, thankful for a regenerated Emmanuel Adebayor . Despite the victories with Swansea and Cardiff City (at the head of which has just arrived the former Red Devil Norwegian Ole Gunnar Solskjaer), Manchester United cannot get up and remains seventh in the league. Surprise of this month, in my opinion, is Fabio Borini’s Sunderland, that has neutralized United in Capital One Cup, reaching the final, and succeeded brilliantly out of the bottom of the league, winning, for the moment, the salvation fight with Fulham, Crystal Palace and West Ham. With the success against Newcastle, is now fourteenth, at the same level with Swansea, Hull City and Norwich.

Transfer window

As usual, winter transfer window rescues teams most in need, especially those at risk retrocession. So is not abnormal to see Manchester City totally devoid of purchases, and, at the opposite, Cardiff and Fulham, which have used what they could of their money. Below there is a list of purchases and sales, with an overall assessment for each team.

Arsenal, 6. "Political six" for Arsenal who had little to improve, Kallstrom is a good operation, Gunners tried to sign the striker Mirko Vucinic, trapped by the operation failed with Inter, which included an exchange with Juventus who want to sign the midfielder Fredy Guarin; also followed Julian Draxler of Schalke 04 and in the deadline it was talked of an interest ever for a Juventus striker, Fabio Quagliarella. The sales are "young”: Akpom and Yennaris to Brentford on loan, Afobe to Sheffield Wednesday, Park to Watford.

Aston Villa, 6. Entries as Holt and Bertrand will certainly contribute to the cause, important the assignment of Irleand to Stoke City. Given goes on loan to Middlesbrough, Delfouneso to Coventry City.

Cardiff City, 6,5. Solskjaer calls his old footballers, with whom he worked at Molde and has great understanding: Berget , Eikrem and Dæhli. Jones also comes from Stoke City (which takes in exchange Odemwingie) and the two young Fabio and Zaha from United. Gestede and Conway sold to Blackburn, Brayford to Sheffield United, Kiss to Ross County and Moore to Bristol City.

Chelsea, 8. Great purchase Matic, as well as those of Salah and Zouma. Even outbound operations were well calibrated, with Mata so underrated at Stamford Bridge and sold to United, with an income that is around 40 million. Essien to Milan on loan, Bertrand and McEachran to Aston Villa Wigan; instead is finally the passage of De Bruyne to Wolfsburg.

Crystal Palace, 6. Good the arrival of Joe Ledley form Celtic, also took Ince on loan from Blackpool, Puncheon from Southampton, Dann from Blackburn and Wolverhampton from Hennessey. Hunt on loan to Barnsley, Appiah to Notts County and Phillips to Leicester City.

Everton, 6. Particularly noteworthy were the transfers of Jelavic and Heitinga, to replace the striker Lacina Traoré and McGeady came here. Stanek also comes from Sparta Prague.

Fulham, 8,5. Rating so high for a campaign that combines quality with quantity, the problem will be to translate all this stuff in salvation: Fulham is currently the last of the league at 19 points. Go back, even if on loan, Clint Dempsey, who, after the experience at Tottenham, went home, at Seattle Sounders; with the same formula Kvist arrives from Stuttgart and Holtby from Spurs. Great, in my opinion, was buying the Greek striker Konstantinos Mitroglou, who was playing so well at Olympiakos. Heitinga from Everton and United Tunnicliffe complete this important session for the London club, which gives Psv Ruiz, Valencia Senderos and Monaco Berbatov.

Hull City, 6,5. Reinforcements exclusively in attack: Jelavic from Everton and Long from Wba. Cairney goes to Blackburn, McLean to Bradford and Hobbs to Nottingham.

Liverpool, 5. Practically no purchases can go well, but what has not arrived and, I think, is what would be served, an experience attacker to replace in need Sturridge and Suarez. Roddan, Ngog and Llori go on loan respectively to Accrington, Granada and Walsall .

Manchester City, 5,5. Pellegrini chooses not think about any purchases; lent Guidetti at Stoke and Rusnak to Birmingham.

Manchester United, 6,5. Mata is a champion, great purschase, but Moyes did not seem to want to end it here. It is talked about Vidal, Pogba, Kroos and Reus, but those operations were almost impossible, except for the attacking midfielder of Bayern Monaco, who seemed really close to Red Devils. Anderson on loan to Fiorentina, Fabio and Zaha to Cardiff City, Macheda to Birmingham and Keane to QPR .

Newcastle United, 5,5. It weighs Cabaye 's departure to Paris, it is also important the sale of Gutierrez to Norwich. Unique purchase is Luuk De Jong, on loan from Borussia Monchengladbach.

Norwich City, 6. Nice shot Gutierrez, also comes Yobo from Fenerbache. Ayala to Middlesbrough and Loza to Leyton Orient .

Southampton, 5. No purchase, some important assignment, including that of Daniel Osvaldo to Juventus (loan with the right of ransom set at 18 million). Puncheon to Crystal Palace, Fox on loan to Nottingham and Martin to Brimingham .

Stoke City, 6,5. Great grafts Irleand, Guidetti and Odemwingie exchanged with Jones with Cardiff. Ness to Leyton Orient and Shea to Barnsley .

Sunderland, 6. Alonso arriving on loan from Fiorentina and Vergini from Estudiantes, also taken Ustari and Scocco. Sales: Cabral to Genoa (loan), Ji to Augsburg, Diakité to Fiorentina (loan), Graham to Middlesbrough (loan) and Vaughan to Nottingham (loan) .

Swansea, 6. Aside from Emnes from Middlesbrough and Hanley from Blackburn, stands out the arrival of David Ngog form Bolton. Alfei to Portsmouth, Tate to Aberdeen and Donnelly to Coventry City.

Tottenham, 5. Really dull market for Spurs, who sell Defoe in Canada and Holtby on loan to Fulham.

West Bromwich Albion, 4,5. From a team that is at just 1 point away from retrocession you should expect more. Taken Bifouma from Espanyol, Long sold to Hull City and Thorn to Derby County.

West Ham United, 7.5. After that of Fulham, the market for West Ham was in my opinion the most complete. Big Spending in Italy: Borriello from Roma, Nocerino from AC Milan and Armero from Naples, for a moment it was tolked about blowing Osvaldo to Juventus and there was also a Raul Meireles idea for the midfield. Also arrived Razak, Johnson and Gordon. Maiga to Qpr and Rat terminates.

Premier League - Gennaio

Il mese di Gennaio è stato giustamente dominato dal mercato, che tratteremo con maggior cura e attenzione, ma, per quanto riguarda il campionato inglese, ha portato alcune novità, soprattutto nelle zone alte della classifica. Il Manchester City è infatti la nuova capolista, ad appena 1 punto dall’Arsenal, tradito dal pareggio esterno con il Southampton nella ventitreesima giornata. Il Chelsea resta in agguato, cosi come Liverpool ed Everton, mentre il Tottenham è in leggero rialzo, grazie ad un rigenerato Emmanuel Adebayor . Nonostante le vittorie con Swansea e Cardiff City (alla guida del quale è arrivato proprio il norvegese ex Red Devil Ole Gunnar Solskjaer), il Manchester United non riesce a rialzarsi e rimane settimo in classifica. Sorpresa di questo mese, a parer mio, è il Sunderland: la squadra di Fabio Borini ha neutralizzato in Capital One Cup lo United portandosi in finale ed è riuscita brillantemente ad uscire dalla zona retrocessione, vincendo, per ora, la battaglia salvezza con Fulham, Crystal Palace e West Ham. Con il successo di oggi sul Newcastle, è ora quattordicesima, a pari punti con Swansea, Hull e Norwich.

Mercato

Come al solito, la sessione invernale di calciomercato interviene in soccorso delle squadre più in difficoltà, specie quelle a rischio retrocessione. Normale è dunque vedere un Manchester City totalmente privo di acquisti, contrapposto, per esempio, a Cardiff e Fulham, che hanno sfruttato quanto potevano le loro possibilità economiche. Di seguito la lista degli acquisti e delle cessioni, con una valutazione generale per ogni squadra.

Arsenal , 6. “Sei politico” per un Arsenal che aveva poco da migliorare; buona l’operazione Kallstrom, cercato per tanto tempo l’attaccante Mirko Vucinic, intrappolato dall’operazione fallita con l’Inter che prevedeva uno scambio con i bianconeri col centrocampista Fredy Guarin; inseguito anche Julian Draxler dello Schalke 04 e l’ultimo giorno si è parlato di un interessamento sempre per un attaccante della Juventus, Fabio Quagliarella. In uscita si tratta di operazioni “giovani”: Akpom e Yennaris in prestito al Brentford,  Afobe allo Sheffield Wednesday, Park al Watford.

Aston Villa, 6. Gli inserimenti di Holt e Bertrand contribuiranno sicuramente alla causa, importante la cessione di Irleand allo Stoke City. Given va in prestito al Middlesbrough, Delfouneso al Coventry City.

Cardiff City, 6,5. Solskjaer chiama delle sue vecchie conoscenze, con cui ha lavorato al Molde e ha grande intesa: Berget, Eikrem e Daehli. Arrivano anche Jones dallo Stoke City (che prende in cambio Odemwingie)  e i due giovani Fàbio e Zaha dallo United. Ceduti Gestede e Conway al Blackburn, Brayford allo Sheffield United, Kiss al Ross County e Moore al Bristol City.

Chelsea, 8. Ottimo l’acquisto di Matic, cosi come quello di Salah e Zouma. Anche in uscita le operazioni sono state calibrate bene, con un Mata ormai quasi disusato a Stamford Bridge e giustamente venduto allo United, con un ricavo che si aggira attorno ai 40 milioni. Ceduti in prestito Essien al Milan, Bertrand all’Aston Villa e McEachran al Wigan; definitivo invece il passaggio di De Bruyne al Wolfsburg.

Crystal Palace, 6. Buono l’arrivo di Joe Ledley dal Celtic , preso anche Ince in prestito dal Blackpool; definitivi gli acquisti di Puncheon dal Southampton, Dann dal Blackburn e Hennessey dal Wolverhampton. Hunt in prestito al Barnsley, Appiah al Notts County e Phillips al Leicester City.

Everton, 6. Spiccano le cessioni di Jelavic e Heitinga, per sostituire l’attaccante ecco McGeady e Lacina Traoré. Arriva anche Stanek dallo Sparta Praga.

Fulham, 8,5. Voto cosi alto per una campagna acquisti che unisce qualità a quantità, il problema sarà tradurre tutto ciò nella salvezza: attualmente il Fulham è ultimo a 19 punti. Torna, anche se in prestito, Clint Dempsey, che dopo l’esperienza al Tottenham è andato in patria, al Seattle Sounders; con la stessa formula arrivano Kvist dallo Stoccarda e Holtby dagli Spurs. Grandioso, a parer mio, l’acquisto dell’attaccante greco Konstantinos Mitroglou, che tanto bene stava facendo all’Olympiakos. Heitinga dall’Everton e Tunnicliffe dallo United completano questa importante sessione da parte del club londinese, che cede Ruiz al Psv, Senderos al Valencia e Berbatov al Monaco.

Hull City, 6,5. Rinforzi esclusivamente in attacco: Jelavic dall’Everton e Long dal Wba. Cairney va al Blackburn, McLean al Bradford e Hobbs al Nottingham.

Liverpool, 5. Non fare praticamente acquisti può andare, ma non è arrivato quello che, secondo me, sarebbe servito, ovvero un attaccante di esperienza che serva a sostituire nelle necessità Sturridge e Suarez. Roddan, Llori e Ngoo vanno in prestito rispettivamente ad Accrington, Granada e Walsall.

Manchester City, 5,5. Pellegrini sceglie di non pensare ad eventuali innesti; ceduti in prestito Guidetti allo Stoke e Rusnak al Birmingham.

Manchester United, 6,5. Mata è un grande campione, ottimo colpo, ma Moyes sembrava non voler finirla qui. Si era parlato di Vidal, Pogba, Kroos e Reus, ma erano operazioni quasi impossibili, eccezion fatta per il trequartista del Bayern Monaco, che sembrava davvero vicino. Anderson in prestito alla Fiorentina, Fàbio e Zaha al Cardiff City, Macheda al Birmingham e Keane al Qpr.

Newcastle United, 5,5. Pesa la partenza di Cabaye per Parigi, cessione importante anche quella di Gutierrez al Norwich.  Unico acquisti è Luuk De Jong, in prestito dal Borussia Monchengladbach.

Norwich City, 6. Bel colpo Gutierrez, arriva anche Yobo dal Fenerbache. Ayala al Middlesbrough e Loza al Leyton Orient.

Southampton, 5. Nessun acquisto, qualche cessione importante, tra cui quella di Daniel Osvaldo alla Juventus (prestito con diritto di riscatto fissato a 18 milioni). Puncheon al Crystal Palace, Fox in prestito al Nottingham e Martin al Brimingham.

Stoke City, 6,5.  Ottimi gli innesti di Irleand, Guidetti e Odemwingie, scambiato con il Cardiff con Jones. Ness al Leyton Orient e Shea al Barnsley.

Sunderland, 6. Arrivano in prestito Alonso dalla Fiorentina e Vergini dall’Estudiantes, presi anche Ustari e Scocco. Cessioni: Cabral al Genoa (prestito), Ji all’Augsburg, Diakité alla Fiorentina (prestito), Graham al Middlesbrough (prestito) e Vaughan al Nottingham (prestito).

Swansea, 6. A parte Emnes dal Middlesbrough e Hanley dal Blackburn, spicca l’arrivo di David Ngog dal Bolton. Ceduti Alfei al Portsmouth, Tate all’Aberdeen e Donnelly al Coventry City.

Tottenham, 5. Davvero scialbo il mercato degli Spurs, che vendono Defoe in Canada e Holtby in prestito al Fulham.

West Ham United, 7,5. Dopo quello del Fulham, il mercato del West Ham è stato a mio parere il più completo. Spesa grande in Italia: Borriello dalla Roma, Nocerino dal Milan e Armero dal Napoli, per un attimo si è profilata l’occasione di soffiare Osvaldo alla Juventus e si è parlato anche di Raul Meireles per il centrocampo. Ingaggiati anche Razak, Johnson e Gordon.  Maiga al Qpr e Rat rescinde.
